Decorating the Tree

STEP 1 LIGHTS

The first step in how to decorate a Christmas tree is adding the lights. Tree lights typically come on green or white wire strands; choose the strand color that matches your tree so the wire will be hidden. Illuminating your Christmas tree from the inside out will give it the most dynamic look. Start at the base of the trunk and work your way up, wrapping lights around every major branch, moving from the trunk to the tip and back.

Here are four popular types of lights to choose from when decorating your Christmas tree.

-Traditional Incandescent lights: These Christmas tree lights, which come in a variety of sizes and colors, are the most popular type of tree lights. They warm up the branches of a real tree, which will release the scent of pine into the room.

-LED lights: These Christmas tree lights are newer than the traditional incandescent lights and don't produce heat. -They're typically more expensive, but they are flameproof, fireproof, and completely safe to put on your tree.

-Globe lights: These Christmas tree lights are round and come in many sizes. They look like balls of color on the tree, and while they have a softer glow than mini lights, the light they produce covers a larger area on the tree.

-Bubble lights: These retro lights stand straight up on the limbs of your Christmas tree. When the liquid tube on top of the light warms up, bubbles float up and down inside the tube, resembling lava lamps.

-Experiment with different lighting schemes until you find one you like -- it's OK to mix and match lights. For example, a background of white or clear lights can be highlighted with strands of colored lights that wrap the outer areas of the tree.
Editor's tip: Don't skimp on lights -- for every vertical foot of tree, you should use a strand of 100 lights.

STEP 2 GARLAND:
There are no firm rules when draping garlands on your Christmas tree. To avoid the "sausage effect" (branches bulging between tightly cinched garlands), start at the top of the tree and slowly increase the amount of garland between each wave as you work your way down the branches. Plan to use about two strands of garland for every vertical foot of tree.
To avoid a busy look on your tree, use a variety of garlands from plain to fancy. Thin, beaded garlands look best hung from branch to branch; thicker paper, ribbon, or foil garlands look best wrapped loosely around the entire tree.

STEP 3 ORNAMENTS:
The next step in Christmas tree decorating is to hang your Christmas tree ornaments. To showcase your favorites, place them in prime positions on the tree first. Next, hang your larger ornaments, spacing them evenly around the tree. Fill in around those ornaments with medium- and small-size ornaments. Be sure to hang some ornaments closer to the trunk to create depth and interest. Finish dressing the tree by adding specialty items, such as clip-on ornaments or icicles.

Welcome!

If you have been into the store on a Wednesday or a Saturday recently, you have most likely met and been helped by Angela. She is one of our new Sales Associates and Designers.

Angela started with us in April. She has been a quick learner, and is great with picking color combinations. I thought it would be fun to introduce you to her here.

Angela was born on Dec. 3, no I'm not going to tell you the year. She is outgoing, and catching on with all of the flooring and home decor trends quickly. She loves Navy Blue and Yellow. Take her to get some Chinese Food, or a good steak and you'll be great friends!

Angela married her best friend almost 10 years ago. His parents were out of town (and honestly, how many 20 year old's do you know that cook for themselves?) so he stopped by the fast food place Angela was working at, they met, and the rest is history!

Angela has 3 kids, 1 girl, and 2 boys.

Her oldest, Haylee, is going into 4th grade, and is "smart as a whip".

Haygen is going into 1st Grade, and is "very energetic and outgoing".

Her baby, Hayzlie, is 2, and "full of life".

Angela would love to take a vacation to Florida and dance on the beach, but would settle for a trip to the mountains any day!

Angela is a licensed Cosmetologist and CNA. So if you have any questions about your hair, just ask her!

Angela loves learning new things, and is currently in school to get her Radiology Degree. She didn't realize how much she loves Interior Design until she started working at Cheney Flooring & Home Design, but has been excited to learn so much so quickly.

Angela's favorite design tip she has learned so far is that decorative pillows can be your best friend! They can add light and life to any space, but if you use too many, or go overboard with them either in numbers or style, they can be your worst enemy! Don't be afraid to mix and match, add and take away. Play with them, and find what works for you!

Welcome to the team, Angela! Stop by the store Wednesday or Saturday to welcome Angela yourself!

Ciera

April Girl's Night Out

Girl's Night Out is always my favorite night of the month! (I don't have many friends here, because I'm new, and work a lot, so all the ladies that come out are my new "friends" whether they want to be or not!)

We had so much fun this month, just like we do every month. We keep getting more people coming and creating with us! Check out what we did!

I love seeing everyone's creativity. None of the projects were exactly alike, but all of them were adorable!

Giveaway

Wow! It has been 1 month since we did our BIG GIVEAWAY! Thank you to everyone that came. It was so much fun!

We had the talented Abrey Adams Photography studio here in our store taking pictures of kids with their favorite superheros. Across the street, we had Anna and Elsa from Frozen mesmerizing all of the kids they saw too! There was a bounce house in our parking lot, and the radio station, KKAT Country 106, inside the store. People were everywhere, and it was AMAZING!

We had people from as far as Buhl come into town to see us. There was even a family that came up from Utah... Okay, that was my family, but STILL.

We were able to team up with KKAT Country and Abrey Adams Photography to give away some amazing prizes to people. We did a reverse drawing to see who would win.

Our Third Place Prize was a 16x20 portrait from Abrey Adams Photography.

The Second Place Prize was a trip to Boise, Idaho to see Frozen on Ice for a family of 4, hotel accommodations included!

And the Grand Prize was from us, here at Cheney Flooring & Home Design. We gave away an ENTIRE bedroom makeover! This included removal of old carpet, new 8lb carpet pad, new Colossal II carpet (the thickest we have), new base boards, 1 Gallon of Paint, a mirror, Canvas Wall art, Bedspread, Sheets, Blanket, Toy, Pillow, Garbage Can, drapes, a lamp, and a refinished dresser made custom by Whittney! This was a Grand Prize worth $2,300!!! Our lucky Grand Prize winner was Essie Winmill. (We are installing her carpet next week, if she lets us, we'll post pictures!)

This day was so much fun. I loved seeing new people come into the store, and I loved seeing familiar faces as well! It was so fun to watch kids as they saw their favorite super hero, and either hugged them and posed, or got intimidated as they got closer.

Events like this one are part of why I love working for Kyle and Whittney. They see a need, and want to fill it. We were able to help a family that needed new carpet, and seeing Essie's little boys give the room to their sisters was amazing. Not many kids would give up a SUPERHERO room so their sisters could have a FROZEN room, but these boys did, without a hesitation. Congratulations Essie!

Ciera
